THE SIN OF LIQUOR SELLING
(Temperance) Beecher, Rev. T.K.; Rev. A.C. George. TEMPERANCE DISCOURSES. I." THE IMPOLICY IF NOT INJUSTICE OF ASSAULTING THE LIQUOR TRAFFIC." A SERMON BY REV. T.K. BEECHER. II "THE SIN OF LIQUOR SELLING:" A SERMON BY REV. A.C. GEORGE, D.D. Pub. by Leader Association. 1st 1875. Printed wraps, 22 pgs., ads.
The Publishers’ Notice states, “The first of the discourses, contained in this pamphlet, was preached in the Opera House, in this city, April 19, 1875, by Rev. T. K. Beecher. His theme, as stated, was “The impolicy if not injustice of assaulting the liquor traffic as part of our work in the cause of
total abstinence.” The sermon was published the following Saturday in the “Miscellany” of the Elmira Gazette – a portion of that paper which Mr. Beecher edits, and which is entirely subject to his control. The second discourse, on “The Sin of Liquor Selling”, was preached by Rev. A. C. George, D.D., in the First M. E. Church, May 2, and was printed from the author’s notes, in the Elmira Advertiser, May 4, as an answer to the positions taken by Mr. Beecher.
The two sermons are now published in connection, in a more permanent form, as a matter of interest to the public, and because it is believed that each, in its own peculiar way, is eminently adapted to promote the cause of Temperance. Elmira, N. Y., June 10, 1875.”
