ALLEN S. PARKER DAY-BOOK – STONE MASON - 1833-60

ALLEN S. PARKER DAY-BOOK. PEPPERELL, JANUARY 1, 1833. The day-book belonging to Allen S. Parker of Pepperell, MA 1833-1860. Parker was born in Pepperell, MA on October 6, 1801 with a date of death unknown. He married M. Charlotte Colson (1806-1894) on December 2, 1826 and they had three sons and 2 daughters. By trade, Parker was a brick layer, stone mason, plasterer and accomplished all related trades such as building fire frames and splitting stone. The ledger indicates that Parker had a large clientele in the Pepperell area with numerous entries showing work accomplished and labor cost including the following:
1. Work for Thomas Bancroft
May 12, 1836 for Thomas Bancroft – splitting stone one Day – $1.50
May 31, 1836 to laying bricks three/fourths day – $1.50
June 1 – To laying stone and bricks – one day - $1.50
Feb. 22, 1837 – by sledding wood one day morn and four oxen - $1.75
2. Work for James Parker of Shirley
May 10 to 11, 1833 – to 3 ¼ day painting and fitting window capes and splitting stone - 6.06. To splitting and fitting stone and setting underpinning by the foot at 14 cents per foot.
May 21 to 15 – To laying Bricks by the thousands, the hole number of bricks is fifty nine thousand and eight hundred and eighty.
June – Bricks at two Dollars per thousand - $119.76
3. Work for Daniel H. Lawrence of Pepperell.
November 20, 1833. To setting one fire frame -$1.10 the amount broat forward to this book for work done in October 19, 1832 laying brick two and three fourth day - $3.55 to setting two fire frames - $2.00. Dec. 26, 1834 paid by note - $6.65.
