CODY, WYOMING AND THE "WILD WEST" PHOTO ALBUM

CODY, WYOMING AND THE "WILD WEST" PHOTO ALBUM

(Wyoming - Mormons) Taggart, Marjorie. A photo album created by Marjorie Taggart who presented it as a Christmas gift to Claire writing "Dear Clair..Here's your "Wyoming" photograph album. Each time you look at it please have fond memories of Cody and the "Wild West", Loads of Love, Marjorie."

There are 17 leaves with 99 photographs (4 1/2 x 2 3/4 inches) and (1 1/2 x 1 14 inches). Most of the photos concerning individuals are of the Taggart family who interesting enough held the contract through the Taggart Construction Co. to build most of the roads in Yellowstone. One of the photos is of their sign stating "Road improvement Ahead. Drive Carefully. Thank You. Taggart Construction Company Contractor" During this time frame the Taggart Construction Company was the oldest and largest in the state of Wyoming. Another two photos are of the outdoor movie theater at Old Faithful Geyser. I have never seen photos of this screen in any of the large number of Yellowstone photo albums we have owned. Also there are photos of Shoshone Canyon Dam, the Taggart home, Hotel Irma, the Cody Stampede, Shoshone and Crow Indians, Cook City, Mammoth Hot Springs, Jackson Hole, Cook City, Canyon Hotel the Lower Yellowstone, etc. There is also a long shot parade photo of Bill Garlo who was Buffalo Bills grandson and Kid Nickles who sometimes is credited with creating plywood.

The album is presented to Clair on Dec. 25, 1938. The photo of Marjorie Taggart who composed the album is dated July 8, 1938. The pictures are from July 1933 and July 1938. All of the photos have to do with Cody and Yellowstone with the exception of one which is titled San Francisco - February 1938. When I spoke with a descendant of Marjorie Taggart they stated that during this period some of the Taggart's were living in San Francisco. Interestingly enough the photo is labelled as Powell Street, which of course is fun since Powell. Wyoming is only about 25 miles from Cody.

The album measures 8 x 10 3/4 inches.

An absolutely beautiful album with wooden boards, made by the Wood'n'Copper Wright Company and tied together with leather string. Photos have great contrast. Vg cond.
