GENUINE DURHAM TOBACCO POLITICAL TRADE CARD A bi-partisan metamorphic advertisement trade card for GENUINE DURHAM TOBACCO. Measuring 3 1/4 x 4 inches closed and 3 ½ x 5 3/4 inches opened. Dating from 1880 when Samuel J. Tilden was considering a run for the presidency after his 1876 lose. When opened it shows President Grant and closed Samuel J. Tilden, the Democratic Governor of New York. Each illustration has a political poem relating to the individual. For instance for Samuel J. Tilden it starts "Come all you true born Democrats, You hardy hearts of oak..." and for President Grant "And all you good Republicans, Will surely be enchanted." The piece advertises the Durham, North Carolina tobacco Company and was distributed in this case by New London, Connecticut grocer W.K. Spencer. Printer, Donaldson Brothers. Overall in vg cond.
