SHALL THE WOMEN ON FARMS VOTE?

(Michigan – Woman Suffrage) SHALL THE WOMEN ON FARMS VOTE? Allied Printing. Trades Union Label Council, Jackson. “Women have nobly and bravely fought side by side with men in pioneer farm work. Their counsel and assistance is invaluable to the prosperous farmer. Why should not their partners in privation and prosperity be political partners? They should express through the ballot their ideas of what their families need and what shall be the character of the village where their children go for pleasure or on business. The ballot in the hands of the farmer’s wife will be a blessing to her. It is an educator, a stimulus to a larger life, an opportunity to do good, a means by which the conscience and intelligence of the farmer’s wife can make itself more directly felt in her community. …...When he votes next November on the question of granting the ballot to woman in Michigan, we hope he will live up to his high reputation and vote “Yes”.

Plus two handouts..one titled DO YOU BELIEVE? And the second being WOMAN’S RIGHTS VS. WOMAN’S DUTIES. “What do we educate them for if society does not intend to let them use their trained minds in the cause of good politics? They are getting the same education for citizenship as boys. Why deny them the chance to make good as citizens? Why not let them help when they are trained for service and eager to do their political duty? Men of Michigan, vote “Yes” next November.”

The Michigan Women’s Suffrage Amendment was on the ballot as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment in the November 5, 1912 vote, but it was defeated by a mere 760 votes. However the 19th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution was ratified on August 18, 1920 which prohibited the government from denying or abridging the right to vote on account of sex. Therefore, women were guaranteed the right to vote in the U.S. Constitution.
