TORRINGTON, WYOMING PHOTOGRAPHS
Torrington, founded in 1889 by William G. Curtis was named after his home town of Torrington, CT. He initially served as postmaster (mail being received 2 times a week) and after the towns incorporation he served twice as mayor. By 1908 Torrington had a national bank, three general stores, two hotels, one of which was owned by E.A. Belinger, and a pharmacy owned by W.S. Mille and E.S. Empeg. I believe that the 3 story building on the far left of the photo is probably the courthouse which was dedicated in 1913.Thus the photograph is from that period. Other interesting aspects of the photo are there are two barber poles, Palace Clothing Co. and a sign hanging from the second building from the right which reads Green Front - Luxus (?) The Beer You Like.
Written on back is Torrington. Size of photo is 6 3/8 x 8 3/8 inches with mounting board being 11 5/8 x 10 inches. Despite the large corner chip off the backboard the photo has great contrast showing the main street of Torrington. Overall in vg cond.
