First edition of this scarce work promoting the fine millwork qualities of Port Orford Cedar, which is a light cream-coloured wood, and with exceptional hardness, and fine grain, achieving an almost “porcelain finish.” This catalogue includes numerous photo illustrations illustrating the interiors with Port Orford Cedar, including the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles, the Jacob Stern residence in Beverly Hills, CA, and the Harris residence in Atherton, CA. Pipes (1877-1961), is perhaps best remembered as the strongest proponent of Arts & Crafts English Cottage architecture designs in the Pacific Northwest, with many of his homes listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
