On May 14, 1804, Lewis and Clark and the Corps of Discovery left Camp Dubois (Camp Wood) started thir expedition to the Pacific Ocean.where they would on November 5, 1805 begin the construction of Fort Clatsop where they would shelter and explore. On March 23, 1806 they would start their long trek home and reach St. Louis six months later on September 23, 1806. They had succeeded with crossing the newly acquired western portion of the just purchased Louisiana Purchase. 

The expedition had bene commissiond by President Thomas Jefferson to explore and detail the Louisiana Purchase of 1803. On their return The Corps of Discovery reported their journey through maps, sketches and various journals, all of which are detailed in Coues History Of The Expedition Under The Command Of Lewis And Clark, To The Sources Of The Missouri River,...Pacific Ocean, Performed During The Years 1804-5-6, By Order...A New Edition...Original Manuscript.
