Mt. Baker Camping Trips - July 1920-1921

(Oregon – Mount Baker) CAMPING TRIPS JULY 1920-1921. Mount Baker Trips – July 1920-21. A wonderful photo album of the Oliver and Ferguson families mountaineering and automobile camping trips into Washington National Forest and climbs on Mount Baker. Thirty six (36) silver gelatin photos from sizes 3.25 x 4.25 inches to 3.5 x 5.75 inches all with annotations bound within a post-binder titled Photographs album.

This well annotated and interesting photo album documents the summer camping and mountaineering expeditions of two Bellingham, WA families to the Washington National Forest following WWI. As further evidenced with the group’s touring sedan parked by the National Forest Sign, these trips were prior to the renaming as Mount Baker National Forest, Jan. 21, 1924. The album opens in reverse order with the 1921 trip and the group in camp; above the snow line and a snowball fight; picking and canning 60 quarts of Huckleberries; and mountain views while on horseback on the Skyline Divide Trail; followed by stopovers at the Nooksack Falls along the road leading to Mt. Baker and Mt. Shuksan. The second half images are devoted to their 1920 excursion, includes photos of the 1920 Studebaker 4-door touring sedan, campsites near Nooksack Falls, hikes up Church Mountain, and several views of the women in camping garb on horseback along the Skyline Divide Trail with Mt. Baker and Mt. Shuksan in the background. Overall in vg cond.
