Set of 10 graduated Cochiti Pueblo drums

Set of 10 graduated Cochiti Pueblo drums

A scarce opportunity to own a selection of 10 graduated Cochiti drums from the Cochiti Pueblo 35 miles west of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Spanning the period of the early to middle 20th century this is a magnificent opportunity to own a 7 foot graduated tower which otherwise would take a lifetime to collect and create. The largest drum is roughly 13 inches in diameter x 20 ½ inches tall with the smallest being 3 ½ inches in diameter x 4 inches tall. All with beautifully painted exterior decoration in white, blues, reds, greens, pink and other earthen colors which articulate triangles and clouds between the rawhide lacing. Three retain their rawhide handles and all are in very fine condition. Beaters not present. Created from wood, (probably cottonwood), rawhide, pigment and hide thong.
