Alexander saw service in the 3rd Cavalry with Stoneman and the Peninsular Campaign, Gettysburg. He commanded Fort Bascom in 1867, at Fort McDowell in Arizona in 1868 and Fort Baynard in New Mexico in 1870-71. He also spent time at Fort Garland and Fort Union in 1873-74 and then transferred to the 2nd Cavalry and to Fort Ellis, Montana in 1879 and Fort Custer in 1881. Spotting to cover, minor foxing, but overall a vg copy of a very scarce book.
