VELASCO DAILY TIMES
The VELASCO DAILY TIMES for January 1, 1892, including on page 4, an important large map of the Brazos. A short lived paper, and thus scarce, of less than six months, Velasco, Texas was founded in 1831 and situated on the east side of the Brazos River, four miles from the Gulf of Mexico. It would be later annexed to the city of Freeport. The town’s early history is closely tied with the Battle of Velasco and the Texas Revolution as well as being an important entry point for American settlers to Texas.
