YEARBOOK OF JAPANESE AMERICANS

YEARBOOK OF JAPANESE AMERICANS

Japanese American NewsCorp. NEW YORK JAPANESE AMERICAN DIRECTORY 1948-1949. 1ST. 1948. 273 with various paginations. This is the first post war directory and yearbook published in 1948 by the Hokubei Shinposha which was a Japanese language newspaper. The bulk of the work is devoted to a bilingual Who's Who of Japanese residents and organizations in New York and the tri-state area concerning resettlement and postwar activities, community organizations plus 100 pages of advertisements for Japanese-American business. Written primarily in English. The halftone illustrations at the rear of the book depict patriotic activities conducted with the Japanese New Yorkers during WWII. Many of the photos are Nisei soldiers on leave, celebrations with the returning of the all-Japanese 442 infantry battalion, Niesei politicians, community leaders, artists, business people, etc.

Light damp staining along the spine, several stray pencil marks to illustrated endpapers. Overall a scarce Japanese-American directory in vg cond.
